We know that amazing things happen when the geocaching community comes together. On August 20, 2022 (yes, that’s International Geocaching Day) we are calling all geocachers to break the record for most explorers out caching or on an Adventure in a single day.

This is an ambitious goal! The record we are trying to break has been in place since August 11, 2013! It will take every one of you, your family, your friends, and maybe even your neighbors, but with the power of the incredible global geocaching community, we’re sure we can break it!

What’s the record we’re trying to break?
We’re trying to break the record for most explorers (geocachers and adventurers) logging a cache find, Adventure Location, or Event in a single day. Our goal is to break the record on International Geocaching Day, August 20, 2022, which is also the same day as the Geocaching 20th Anniversary Celebration Event. The current record is 126,833 explorers and it was set on August 11, 2013.

How can I help break the record?
You can help us make history by getting out on Saturday, August 20 and posting a “Found it!” log for a geocache, completing an Adventure Location, or posting an “Attended” log for an Event taking place on that day.

Another great way to help us break the record is to make your August 20 geocache outing a group outing so lots of cachers get out to make finds, or introduce geocaching to a muggle friend. They’ll get to be part of something big with their first find!

Is there a souvenir for breaking the record?
Yes. If we are successful in setting a new record on August 20, we will retroactively award a souvenir a few days after August 20 to the profile of every geocacher and adventurer that helped set the new record.

When will we know if we broke the record?
On August 20, we’ll share regular updates on Twitter, Instagram, and our blog sharing our progress towards setting a new record.

We won’t know for sure whether we broke the record until the Wednesday following the Event, but we’ll be sure to share the results of our record-setting attempt on our social media channels soon after we know them.

Let’s make August 20, 2022 a day for the record books! We can’t wait to make history with you!
