Did you know that when the credits rolled for The Wizard of Oz in 1939 the yellow brick road did not end? You have the opportunity to step into the land of Oz at TIN MAN, (GC3JAY4). This geocache was originally featured as Geocache of the Week almost nine years ago in 2012.

TIN MAN is still a big hit among geocachers, whether or not they consider themselves a fan of The Wizard of Oz. We originally featured GC3JAY4 as Geocache of the Week back when it was only six months old, and it has since accumulated 530 Favorite points and logged over 730 times.

On the outskirts of New York, exists a real-life wonderful world of Oz. “There’s no place like home” when you are here, but fortunately you don’t need red slippers to grant you a smiley on this geocache. Thanks to cache owner Richard E, the Tin Man and other friends of Oz have come alive in this beautifully crafted and intricately designed cache.

Richard explains, “I have been a Wizard of Oz fan since childhood, never missing the yearly showing on TV. The Tin Man is my favorite character.” Richard’s love for the movie and geocaching inspired him to build a life-size Tin Man with “a moving heart that is activated by opening the door on his chest.”

From the moment you arrive on location to find the cache you are immersed in Oz. The yellow brick road leads the way past Oz themed signs and even the characters will gladly point you in the right direction. The cache container itself is a beautiful hand-painted ammo can designed by Sunshine Geo Gurl

The cache logs are filled with excitement and gratitude from the community. Ritell who recently logged “TIN MAN” writes:

“The setup was even better than I had imagined, from the parking area, the ‘traffic director’, the yellow brick road, to the actual tin man himself. This was an amazing experience. The actual cache container itself had such intricate painting on it, with amazing details.”
