The caches are maintained by Houma Travel and are located in scenic areas throughout Terrebonne Parish, shaded by an endless canopy of moss-draped cypress trees, highlighting the beauty and uniqueness of Louisiana’s Bayou Country.

Here are a few geocache highlights:
HTGT2: Cecil’s GC655R4
Image by BAMBOOZLECecil Lapeyrouse Grocery in Chauvin has been open since 1914. Cecil’s grandfather Gustave opened the business which evolved from serving permanent residents to catering to a seasonal crowd. This one-of-a-kind shop has hidden treasures beyond its store shelves—a birdhouse cache in one of the property’s trees!
HTGT: Victorian Gothic Plantation GC5J0N1
Image by SilliamsStep back in time at this historic grand scale Victorian Gothic sugarcane plantation home. Direct descendants of the original owner are still in residence to this day. The movies Crazy in Alabama, Deadline, and Tribute were filmed here. A micro cache is placed to welcome geocachers from near and far.
HTGT: Wildlife 2 GC5HF85
Image by Traveling ArmadillosThe Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge has a span of 4,212 acres that is composed of freshwater marsh and cypress-tupelo swamp. It provides an excellent habitats for waterfowl, wading birds, neotropical songbirds, and—gulp—alligators! This one-mile walking trail through the refuge is home to three geocaches from the GeoTour, just be snappy in case any ‘gators are lurking!
HTGT: Garden & Art Museum GC5J0NN
Image by mike ‘n pinkMore than 100 concrete sculptures are located on the narrow, bayou-side property of the Chauvin Sculpture Garden. The sculptures by Kenny Hill portray a mixture of biblical references, rich Cajun colors, and the evident of pain and struggles within the artist’s life. A walk through this sculpture environment is an emotional experience, evoking a sense of deep spirituality and personal emotion. The Traditional Cache here pays a special tribute to its artistic environment.
What geocachers are saying:
Visiting Vet Tech and I love to travel, and this weekend was no different.
Upon learning that her family was going to be having a small family get together in Houma, we planned a 4-day swing into and through Louisiana hopscotching parishes, tourist attractions and places she passed in her youth. A 6 hour drive quickly turned into a 10+ road trip as we cache our way across the land. The big bonus for our weekend vacation were the 2 GeoTours published by the great city of Houma. We found so many great caches, some innovative, some tricky hides, all in great locations that took us to some unforgettable locations through the area. A huge thank you to the people of Houma who helped place and maintain these hides. -Draegon
The Florida Fun Bunch strikes again!! The Fun Bunch, consisting of horseshoechamp, Funfinderone and myself, came to Houma to do the Houma Travel Geo-Tours, both 1 and 2. We had a blast driving all around the bayou and towns in the area. The caches are really great and a lot of fun. We signed the logs with either “Florida Fun Bunch” or “Fun Bunch” or “FFB”. A big “Thanx” to the Houma Travel staff for placing and maintaining all these cool caches. -gatorman83
In Houma for the long holiday weekend… We had a great time doing these Tours.. plus seeing the area.. AMAZING.. we even according the satellite photo we even drove across water (even though it was a limestone road that did not show up on the satellite image ..) We had to take a detour to get some caches.. but we didn’t care as we were enjoying the scenery too.. Thanks for putting these tours together and for bringing us to Louisiana from Florida. – cyclist81550
